The Geranium Flower

The geranium flower comes in many colors and shapes. While many think of the red geranium, you can also find it in blue and pink as well as white, lavender and everything in between. The flowers range from a single flower to clumps and in dense or sparse population. Geraniums have been cultivated since the 1600’s and are great garden plants as you can find varieties well suited for garden beds, hanging planters, window boxes, outdoor planters and even indoor plant pots.

Planting Tips For Flower

The geranium can be a beautiful outdoor potted plant as well as planted directly in your flower beds.

Geraniums need 6 hours of sun every day to flourish so plant them in a spot that is at least partially sunny.

The soil should drain well and be slightly acidic for best growth

Keeping geraniums in containers is nice if you live in a climate with a harsh winter – you can bring the plant in in the cold weather and set it back out when the last frost is over. Make sure you give it a planter that is large enough for the plant and take care to not overwater.

Indoor geraniums will flower if put in a very sunny spot. Make sure they are in a container large enough for the plant with good drainage. Fertilize every month spring through summer and every other month fall through winter.
