The Geranium Home
Planting a geranium home garden is fairly easy. These plants come in many varieties
and you are sure to find a color shape and size that suits your needs.
Flowers range in color from white to deep red to salmon to
blueish to lavender and everything in between! If you have a natural or cottage style looking garden, you can plant the
wild geranium with it’s light purple flowers as a perfect accent.
If you prefer a more formal look, then the zonal or Cranesbill
geranium might be for you. There’s even a geranium for hanging
baskets! If you want a geranium that does more than look good, you can buy any one of the many
scented geraniums
that have the odor of spices, fruits, coconuts, lemon or roses, or
the Mosquito Geranium that smells like
citronella and repels insects.
Planting Tips For Home Gardeners
For outdoor planting, geraniums will grow just as good in containers as they will in the garden bed.
Make sure you plants get at least 6 hours of sun each day and are protected from strong winds.
Plant the geranium in an area that has good drainage and slightly acidic soil.
Geraniums grow nicely in patio containers and planters. Make sure you use a soil mixture that drains well (soil and peat moss or perlite) and do not over water. It is important to keep your plant in a container that is large enough to support growth or you will find the plant will wilt and look unhealthy.
Geraniums can be nice to have indoors to brighten up a dull winter. Make sure you put them in a very sunny spot and use a well drained potting mix. Optimum temperatures for these plants is 65 degrees in the day and 55 at night.
