The Geranium Incanum

Ever versatile, geraniums can flourish inside and outside both in planters and garden beds.

Make sure you plants get at least 6 hours of sun each day and are protected from strong winds.

The soil should drain well and be slightly acidic for best growth

If planting in containers, choose planters that will be large enough to support growth of the plant. If you find the plant wilting between watering, this may be a sign that it needs to be repotted. Make sure there is adequate drainage and take care not to overwater.

Indoors, geraniums will flower better if you keep them in a sunny spot. They prefer temperatures around 65 degrees during the day and 55 degrees at night. Use a well drained potting mix and fertilize monthly in the spring summer and every 2 months in fall and winter.

The Incanum can make a great addition to any garden. There are herbal uses as well and this plant can be used for inflammation with its mild, soothing effect. The wild geranium is a favorite in a country garden and forms large clumps 12 to 24 inches in height. Serious diseases of geranium, especially bacterial blight, southern wilt, Pseudomonas leaf spot, and rust, can arrive at your greenhouse on cuttings.

They are fairly hardy, although not disease free and you must want their leaves carefully. It is commonly found in moist wooded areas or along stream banks, and can be easily recognized. Geranium oil is used in aromatherapy in the bath and for massage. Geranium plants tend to break and wilt in windy locations so plant them in a protected area.
