The Martha Washington Geranium

The Martha Washington Geranium, sometimes known as Regal Geranium has large flowers and grows best indoors. It does not like heat so, if you do plant it outside, it will not do well in areas that have a very hot summer. It likes a sunny area with well drained soil and grows best when pot bound. Cut the plants back and put in partial shade after flowering.

Planting Tips For Martha Washington
  • Plant in garden beds, planters and hanging baskets.
  • Geraniums need 6 hours of sun every day to flourish so plant them in a spot that is at least partially sunny.
  • Use a well drained mildly acidic soil for best plant growth.

Geraniums grow nicely in patio containers and planters. Make sure you use a soil mixture that drains well (soil and peat moss or perlite) and do not over water. It is important to keep your plant in a container that is large enough to support growth or you will find the plant will wilt and look unhealthy.

Geraniums can be nice to have indoors to brighten up a dull winter. Make sure you put them in a very sunny spot and use a well drained potting mix. Optimum temperatures for these plants is 65 degrees in the day and 55 at night.

Make sure you check the Martha Washington for signs of pests and diseases
