Drink Geranium Tea For Relaxation

The wild geranium has medicinal properties and drinking a geranium tea can help relieve stress. The geranium has been used to heal many ailments for centuries. Producing essential oils around the leaves and flowers, this plant is native to South Africa and adorns gardens around the world. The healing oils are most potent right as the plant begins to flower.

The soothing qualities of the geranium add to it’s reputed uses as a healing herb for cuts, sunburn, bruises and eczema as well as help in relieving the symptoms of PMS, menopause and even hemorrhoids. The aroma of the oils act as a natural repellent for insects and it has been used on dogs as an effective tick repellent.

To Make Geranium Tea

You can make a tea from leaves that have been dried or from fresh leaves. If you prefer your tea to be on the sweet side add a bit of honey.

  • Boil 1 cup water
  • Pour water over leaves (1/4 cup for fresh, 2 teaspoons or dried.
  • Let steep for 5 minutes

    The geranium grows wild in low grounds and open woods from Newfoundland to Manitoba and south to Georgia and Missouri. They are fairly hardy, although not disease free and you must watch their leaves carefully. When purchasing geraniums, look for sturdy plants with good strong leaves. They can be grown as a bedding, in containers or a hanging plant.
